This illustration is inspired by Menko cards, an ancient Japanese game similar to the game Pog. The cards, made of more or less thick cardboard, were usually illustrated with characters from manga/TV series/movies, or sportsmen (mainly baseball players and sumos). On this menko you can see Kyûka, one of our original characters. It is a kappa (creature from Japanese folklore) and its name comes from the English word “cucumber” (which is pronounced “kyûkanba” when written in katakana) because kappas love cucumbers.
